Nipper Natter

University Project, 2017

Brief

An estimated 1/5 of all children experience mental health problems in any given year. No parent would like to believe their child is having mental health issues, and the fear of labelling or them being put on medication would keep many parents from taking their child to get diagnosed. I sought to find a natural way for parents to understand and identify early signs of mental illness in children themselves, so that it can be correctly treated before it becomes fully established.

Solution

I created a range of children’s products called Nipper Natter, which utilises design and information to help parents subtly create a dialogue with their child about difficult topics. The accompanying Nipper Natter booklet then helps the parent understand what their child may be experiencing, and educates them on how best to respond.
